Brisbane Riverside Expressway

Not always a show, but still as impressive

As part of the $3.6 Billion Queen’s Wharf Redevelopment in the heart of Brisbane IKONIX were contacted to help bring a vision to life.

The Vision:

IKONIX were employed to re-produce an intricate, digital artwork design on the underside of Brisbane’s Riverside Expressway. Not an easy task to feat but we were up for the challenge and very excited to utilise our products in yet another way. Painters were employed to complete the colourful design however this was no free-hand job… IKONIX was required to project the design (with accurate masks & guides) onto the bridge for them to use.

The Process:

This project was undertaken in 2 projection stages. IKONIX were given the content which we needed to merge with the original paintwork on the bridge so that the undercoat could be painted. Once the undercoat was completed we were able to project the final, complex design onto the bridge for the painters to trace the design exactly how the artist envisioned it.

Due to the complexity of this bridge and the surrounding structures traditional methods were just not going to work. We needed to think outside of the box and give ourselves the ability to map and blend our projectors on the fly. We decided to utilise our recently purchased ‘Disguise SOLO’ media server, which permitted us to essentially leapfrog projectors and blend on the fly as paint works took place on the previous surface area.

The Details:

IKONIX love providing alternative solutions to our clients… we will consider all options to ensure your job (no matter how big or small) will be a success.
